Gnosis is an Ethereum-based token that is used for generating OWL tokens via a staking process. Owners of GNO can stake their tokens for a predetermined length of time up to a total of one year to begin earning rewards. The amount of OWL that holders of GNO will receive is calculated on the length of the staking period they choose and the amount of GNO they decide to stake.

Who created GNO?
Gnosis was created back in 2015 by Martin Koeppelmann and Stefan George. Their project was one of the first to be officially backed by ConsenSys and was well-received on the release of the whitepaper. Prior to founding Gnosis, Stefan George had experience in the cryptocurrency sphere as the founder of the Bitcoin prediction market Fairlay.
The initial coin offering for GNO raised around a quarter of a million Ethereum tokens after selling just four percent of its total supply. In addition to this, the sale ended in just under 15 minutes due to the interest from all over the world. From 2017 to 2018, the team at Gnosis launched its three platforms. Olympia was first to release in 2017, followed by Apollo in 2018, and finally Gnosis Safe at the end of 2018.
