ICON is a platform designed to facilitate interactions between independent blockchains (also known as communities) through a decentralized exchange. Who created ICX?
ICON was created by the ICON Foundation, founded in Switzerland in 2017 by Min Kim. Its stated goal was to hyper connect Korea, Asia and then eventually the world, introducing a “new era of decentralization”. Its initial coin offering in September 2017 raised an impressive 150,000 ETH ($43 million), the most successful Korean ICO ever at the time.
The official release of the blockchain followed in January 2018, with recipients receiving their cryptocurrency tokens in June of that year. In November 2021, ICON 2.0 was released, with improved performance, preparation for future interoperability via the Blockchain Transmission Protocol (BTP) and Java smart contract support.
