Decentralized finance grew popular since developers began building financial applications on popular blockchain like Ethereum. NEAR Protocol has established itself over time as Ethereum’s competition with the goal of offering a scalable and secure blockchain for developers and users.

Who created NEAR Protocol?

NEAR was created in 2017 by Alexander Skidanov and Illia Polosukhin and was known as NEAR.ai. During its infancy, NEAR Protocol was mainly a machine learning platform. While conducting research, Skidanov and Polosukhin learned about cryptocurrencies and smart contracts, which compelled them to research more about the crypto space.

They began looking more into blockchain platforms to build their application. However, they quickly learned that no available blockchain platform met their expectations and requirements and decided to launch NEAR Protocol to match their immediate needs.

It was always clear to the two that they wanted to build a mass scalable blockchain platform that would help developers deploy their powerful decentralized apps. Therefore, Polosukhin and Skidanov chose the Proof of Stake mechanism instead of Proof of Work.

The pair’s backgrounds show in their skills and qualifications. In 2008, they competed in the ICPC competition where Skidanov won the gold medal while Polosukhin was a finalist. Investors saw massive potential in what the two were envisioning, and within the first four months of NEAR Protocol, the company had raised $50 million without building anything.

Over the years, NEAR has experienced price fluctuations partially due to its relatively small market capitalization. In early 2021, you only needed to pay $1.40 for one coin. However, by March 2021, the price had risen to $7.57 per coin.

How do I exchange and Trade NEAR Protocol?

You can exchange NEAR to USD or other cryptocurrencies by finding an exchange that deals in NEAR and other cryptocurrencies. You can also send supported cryptos to your Rubix account and trade them for NEAR tokens.

After funding your account, all you need to do is find the trading pair you want with NEAR (NEAR/BTC, NEAR/USDT, NEAR/ BUSD) then make your purchase.
