Stacks is one of the oldest blockchains built on the Bitcoin network. The system is linked to Bitcoin via a consensus mechanism called Proof of Transfer. Proof of Transfer links the two networks and allows Stacks to use Bitcoin’s sophisticated security protocols and access its user and staking pools, despite being a separate blockchain.

Stacks is decentralized as a network, which leverages support from individual and corporate holders from around the world. Relying on Bitcoin’s structures of trustlessness and permissionless exchanges, Stacks powers near-fully decentralized apps. App developers have the option to run their programs on the Stacks network, rather than through a centralized exchange, and ensure a high degree of fidelity across high-volume interactions.

Who created STX?

Stacks uses a native token, known as STX, to power its network. The program and its tokens were developed in 2013 by Muneeb Ali and Ryan Shea, who were working together in Princeton University’s computer science department. The pair developed a layer-1 network to facilitate smart contracts that are easy to settle on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Ali and Shea chose to build their network over the existing Bitcoin chain rather than starting from scratch to take advantage of an existing base layer that was already making trades and exchange resolutions fast and reliable. Because of Stacks’ close association with Bitcoin, users and developers on the network have the option to interact with apps that use BTC as a token, which remains the largest ecosystem among crypto assets.

How do I exchange and Trade Stacks?

Users who hold STX can trade their tokens on any platform that supports it. To convert STX to USD or another fiat currency, it is necessary to have access to your crypto wallet through an exchange that supports both currencies. Exchanges typically charge a transaction fee for converting a crypto asset into another currency.

Stacks is one of the oldest and biggest networks to offer its native token to public traders, so it is often found on the same exchanges as its larger partner Bitcoin. Rubix’s user-friendly trading tools can help you manage your investment in Stacks like a pro, no matter what your level of experience with cryptocurrency trading happens to be. Our suite of safety and encryption protocols keeps your investment safe.
